Hancock: Hanging Screens
(Charcoal, compressed charcoal and coloured Conte in A4 sketchbook)
The strange environment created by the designers within the old halls of the Hancock Museum, using sheets of MDF, extended to the ceiling. From there hung screens on which occasional videos were projected. They managed to create an otherworldly atmosphere, but failed to convey anything of the contents of the Museum.
A sad but true observation on the work of many museum exhibit designers, the results of which your image captures very well.

ReplyDeleteThat said, I really like your painting. It has a slightly surrealist quality that works for me. You caught something unintended very well indeed. I've been enjoying all your Hancock Museum drawings. Would they do an exhibition of them?
ReplyDeleteThey might very well make a good exhibition, but I'd have to disassemble the sketchbook. More importantly, however, quite a few of the drawings, especially the double page spreads, are on the backs of others.
ReplyDeleteI saw an exhibition recently where the artist had had exactly the problem with back to back drawings and they were displyed between glass sheets so both sides could be seen. Disassembling the sketchbook is another matter which would quite probably involve disassembling the sketchbook.
