They'd have been going to stay with Grandma's half sister, Jessie, in Edinburgh. Here's a photograph of the two half sisters together in 1954, Gran on the left.
"Mother moved today."
I know my Dad grew up in Deckham Terrace, but whether my Gran was still living there up to this point, I don't know. This move will have been to her house in Alston Street. Here's a photo of me and Grandma, outside that house three years later.
