I'm enjoying your Dad's brief but vivid little entires and find myself envisaging simpler if harder times when the ground always seemed to be covered snow

Thanks, Kev. Though I can't remember the year in question, of course, my memories of childhood winters are quite similar to those described in the Diary. I think we always had coal, though!
