A Poke in the Eye

Not with a sharp stick, but with the corner of a piece of paper. I jabbed myself in the left eye this morning with a piece of paper and it's been aching all day. Not funny, I can tell you. And it meant that while I might have planned to get all sorts of art work done, seeing as the walk to Blawearie was off, I couldn't.

Bummer.

The worst part about getting poked in the eye is that it is, usually, one's own fault. At least it was the two most memorable times I've done it. One was the first time I opened a bottle of sparkling wine. I was sure to keep an eye on the cork. Which meant the danged thing was aimed directly at my eyeball when it shot out. Ouch! The second time I was reaching around the artificial xmas tree my folks had set up at their house (I was visiting them for the holiday). In so doing I managed to bend back one of the springy branches which I released when I moved away. It then sprang forth and the tip of it unerringly whacked me in the eye. Again, ouch! Both times the pain of feeling kind of stupid and clumsy was almost as bad as the physical injury.

I bow to your much more creative poke-in-the-eye techniques.

You might look quite fetching with a black eye-patch, rather Errol Flynn - pirate style's in fashion.

Sorry that it hurts.

Well, I have the earring, and I suppose I could regrow the beard ...
